- 9. Studies show people are only productive for three hours a day and more hours clocked in does not mean more work as after those three hours are up productivity drops drastically.
- 10. Billions of dollars are lost from burnout a year which greatly effects the employers and the employees who suffer from burnout are generally less happy than those who don’t suffer from it.
- 11. The five-day work week was created all the way back in the industrial revolution when people worked long hours in factories and companies believed more hours clocked in meant higher production.
- 12. This system just doesn’t work the same as it used to as we now live in a digital age where our economy focuses more on creativity rather than clocking in and out.
- 13. Unfortunately, many companies still measure productivity as a time on the clock rather than actual results.
- 14. The Harvard Business review reports that overwork and burnout in employees tends to show less work done than employees who don’t suffer from this.
- 15. The second reason the five-day work week still exists is because business fear by allowing employees to take a day off and still get paid will lead to lower profits, even though there is clear evidence showing that this is not the case.
- 16. The solution is clear and it’s to reduce the work week from five to four days.
- 17. This solution is already taking place in many other countries around the world.
- 18. In fact, BBC News reported that in the UK 86% of companies adapted the four-day work week after giving it a one-month trial.
- 19. The benefits of a four-day work week are clear as day, and they are that employees are more rested, focused, and loyal to their company when given extra time to rest or do their own activities.
- 20. While this change won’t happen today it’s important to start noting the facts of why the four-day work week are better so we can refer to this later when we want to make the change.
